Touching Lives Through Sport 2013

[G2:7704]During the weekend between Friday 15th and Sunday 17th November, twenty-seven University students attended a residential seminar organized by SPYS (Salesian Pastoral Youth Service). ‘Touching Lives Through Sports' is aimed at teaching young adults how to educate and develop children's creativity and physical education by means, and with the help, of sports.

The participants, all attending and studying for different degrees at the University of Malta, attended this training course as part of an optional credit. They learnt different ways how to deliver sports related activities to children between the ages of eight and twelve.

The seminar kicked off on Friday evening with ice-breaking activities in order to get to know each other better. Throughout the whole weekend a variety of sessions were organized in order to show different ways in which children could enjoy creative games in a safe environment. The students were also given the task of preparing and delivering such activities themselves. Each session was followed up after with the whole group reflecting and discussing the benefits and advantages concerning the different activities organized.

The aim of SPYS is to help develop young people in a holistic way and during the weekend discussions about values, behaviour and attitudes were simultaneously carried out. Besides that, morning reflections and a mass on Saturday evening were held in order for the students to experience the spiritual side of their formation.
