An experience to remember in Ghana

Ghana 2011_7
24 July marked a big day for SPYS, as 13 volunteers departed to Ghana and India for a month's voluntary work. The group in Ghana, which like all other volunteers had attended the SPYS preparation sessions between February and July, comprised 2 SPYS members and 6 other volunteers. While in Ghana, the group helped in the organisation of the Summer Camp in Adentia, a village of about 5,000 people in the Sunyani area.

More than 200 children from Adentia and the neighbouring villages registered for the camp, during which they had assembly and classroom education in the mornings, and indoor and outdoor games in the afternoons. Although teaching and organising games were great experiences for all the Maltese group, the experience didn't start and end there! Living as a small community in a 3-roomed building, and having to do all the chores was an experience in itself. After all, it's not every day that the Adentia locals get to see 'obroni' (white people) filling buckets of water at the village's borehole... with a manual pump of course!
