Rector Major visits SPYS office

Don Bosco’s ninth successor, Rector Major Don Pasquale Chavez was on his second visit to the Maltese islands last weekend between the 6th and the 9th December 2008 on the occasion of the hundred years anniversary of the Salesian Oratory in Sliema, Malta.

During his stay, Don Chavez had the opportunity to meet many realities and young people through the various activities that were organised and which made this anniversary one to remember. Don Chavez had the chance to meet the Archbishop of Malta, Bishop of Gozo, attended a performance named ‘Elements’ prepared especially for the occasion consisting of dance and music, and visited the Salesian communities around Malta and Gozo in the midst of different celebrations.
On Monday 8th December, which happened to be Don Chavez’s 35th Anniversary of his Ordination, he visited the SPYS (Salesian Pastoral Youth Service) office to meet the members, talk with them about their work, their challenges and their dreams. Don Chavez’s presence was a unique opportunity for SPYS as it served not only as a reflection about what is happening within the organisation but also as a renewed commitment for the future. A Youth Encounter followed this visit in Savio College, Dingli while the celebrations came to an end in the evening with a concelebrated mass at the Con-Cathedral of St John in Valletta.
