Celebrating the Self

It was a Friday afternoon when various members from the organisation met in Mellieħa for our SPYS annual weekend. The focus of the weekend surrounded on the topic of the ‘self'. After enjoying a delicious meal together we met for our first session where we were asked to reflect on ourselves in relation to our past, present, future and God. To achieve this each of us went separately for a walk to find places next to the sea, where nature would help us with our task.

Effective Communication within a Team

On the 26th of August, SPYS held a short session on communication for the youth section of the Kummissjoni Festa Esterna Fgura. The main role of this group is to organise the village feast. However they are also committed to allocating time for formation sessions for its members, especially its younger members, and from time to time SPYS is invited to help out in this formation process.

Treasure Hunt 2013

It was an anticipated day as many members of SPYS met for the Treasure Hunt. The day started off with an ice breaker where each team had to build a statue with the team members depicting the theme "Il-Kaċċa".

Incredible India

Mnarja finally came by and we, the first 2 SPYS volunteers were finally off on our 1 month voluntary experience in Prakashpalaya, a remote village of around 300 families in the Karnataka region - South West India.

Meeting Point Europe

My experience in Benediktbeuern has surely been one I will never forget. Along with my Maltese friends Tanya, Neville, Francesca and Rebecca we met several groups from seven different countries were we shared different types of traditions and experiences. The week was very well planned, since we had time for games, workshops and time for reflection.

Intercultural Learning and Human Rights Training Course

From 21st to 28th of July 2013 a group of young Salesian volunteers from across Europe gathered in Ghent, Belgium, for a week-long training course focusing on Intercultural Learning and Human Rights. The Salesian organisation representing Malta, which was SPYS sent out four participants which were Luke, Robert, Chanel and Samuel.

YES Camp 2013 :: Another Great Success!

The 4th annual YES (Youths Engage in Senglea) summer camp was held between the 8th and 19th of July 2013. Preparations had long been started, as this year we planned a record number of fundraising activities. In fact, apart from the annual cake sale, a football tournament and participation in a youth debate on current issues called 3D: Discuss, Debate, Decide were also organised.

Behind Anime Lines

14 participants, 5 different countries, one great experience. On the 28th June, Angele Debono, Mohamed El Bakry, Malcom Camilleri and I, embarked on a journey which lasted for two amazing weeks in Flanders, Belgium.

A Team-building Session for Sliema Oratory Summer School Leaders

Saturday 13th July, 2013

The leaders of the Oratory of Don Bosco in Sliema have come together once again to set up and provide summer school for about 300 youths. SPYS has been asked to organise a set of team-building activities to boost these leaders in their creativity and inspiration.

DBYN Trains Trainers for Human Rights Education in a Don Bosco Setting

Twenty-four participants, fourteen different nationalities, thirteen different organizations, seven days, one goal! Between July 7th and 14th, DBYN and the Council of Europe organized a Training Course with the name of "Compassing DBYN towards Human Rights Education" at the European Youth Center in Strasbourg, in order to train youth trainers to Human Rights Education, one of the Council of Europe's core values.
