Volunteer - Key to the Future


It was a brisk morning when the participants in Malta left for the International Airport. Our adventure of “Volunteer- Key to the future” organized by the Don Bosco Youth Net (DBYN) was about to begin in Krakow, Poland. Being one of the 4 Maltese participants (2 from SPYS and 2 from CAM Youths) I was excited and eager to learn and take what I can from this opportunity.

General Executive Body Meeting - March 2011

SPYS Malta represented by one of its volunteers, Ivor Micallef, was present at the Don Bosco Youth Net (DBYN) General Executive Body meeting held in Krakow, Poland which was held between the 10th and 12th of March 2011. SPYS Malta has once again been elected on the administrative board of the DYBN for the next 3 years, which brings together Salesian organisations from 13 different European states. SPYS has been a member of the DBYN since 2005 and has been part of the administrative board since 2008.

Learning to Learn

Between the 24 – 27 February five SPYS members and trainers of the Don Bosco Youth-Net (DBYN) Pool of Trainers participated in a seminar funded by the Youth in Action Programme, entitled So You Learn at the Juegdverblijfcentrum Don Bosco in Groot Bijgaarden, Belgium.

SPYS Pasta night…for a good cause

On the 19th of Feburary 2011, “SPYS Pasta night…for a good cause” was held at St Patricks in Sliema. The team, with the help of all those who attended, managed to raise an amount of 1090 Euros! All of the proceeds went to fund the schooling of children in Kenya. When some SPYS members went to Kenya in 2007 they had met families in need of such help. Throughout the years SPYS have managed to find sponsorships for these children.

Polyteknik - another SPYS success story

This February, the Salesian Pastoral Youth Service (SPYS) organized yet another fundraising event. Following the success of Ringy Dingy 50s and Chick'a'Boom 70s parties, it was time for Polyteknik, an 80s party to make a hit.

My World-One World

Between 18 and 23 January about 30 young people from over 10 different countries were in Bonn, Germany, to take part in an International Youth Conference "My world-one world".

The conference was the final event of a one year partnership of the Salesian NGO JUGEND DRITTE WELT and the city of Bonn. It was sponsored by the city and the "Foundation for International Dialogue of the Saving Bank in Bonn".

A call to "Volunteer... for (a) change!"

Around 70 people, mostly young in age but all of them young at heart, recently gathered at St Patrick's School for an information session held by SPYS and themed "Volunteer... for (a) change!" During the session, information was given about Salesian projects and volunteering opportunities in India, Ghana, and Kenya, as well as information about a summer camp on our very own shores at the Salesian community in Senglea.
