Animating in India

On the 16 th of July, with the help of SPYS, I set out to travel to Bengaluru, India to meet up with the
Salesian Volunteers organisation- which welcomes, helps and sends out volunteers to
ongoing Salesian projects within the states of Karnataka and Kerala in India. After familiarising myself
with the Salesians residing there, I got to experience some initial insight into the Indian culture and way
of life. The plan then was to meet up with the Rector coordinating the project at ‘Devadurga’ and make
our way up using a night bus.

SPYS live-In

On the last week-end of September, SPYS members gathered at Dar Stella
Maris, in Żebbuġ Gozo, for their annual live-in, at the beginning of the pastoral
year. Members from SPYS.Int (international volunteering), YES (Senglea
summer camp) and DBYN Malta joined together to share experiences and
ideas. Particulalry, the relevance of SPYS in today’s Church and fluid society,
and ways to reach more young people in the respective groups, were
discussed. The points discussed will serve as a reference point for this year’s
pastoral programme.

Daniel and Maria's experience in India Summer 2018

I have always dreamt of experiencing the love and warmth in young children while volunteering outside the borders of Malta. Thanks to the Salesian Pastoral Youth Service (SPYS) organisation it transpired to occur last Summer aboard a one month journey in India.

Tanzania - Bro Johan Bugeja, Luca Cacciattolo and Glen Farrugia

In the beginning of July we embarked on a journey in the biggest country of East Africa; Tanzania. Our first Salesian house was the Salesian Novitiate in Morogoro, where we were welcomed by the community together with 11 novices. Throughout our two-week stay, we fully participated in the community programme, while also spending the morning hours with the students attending Mt. Carmel English Primary School. Here we were greatly welcomed by all, but especially by the school Principal Sr.
